Art Crawl and our anniversary!

My husband and I are celebrating our17th anniversary today…actually 17 years since we met!  We started out our anniversary weekend with attending our first Art Crawl--a Meetup group that meets monthly for an event in Santa Barbara called 1st Thursday, described on their website as, “1st Thursday is an award winning program highlighting downtown arts, culture and entertainment on the first Thursday of every month http://www.santabarbaradowntown.com/go.asp.”

Our group toured local art galleries, experienced great art, people, wine, cupcakes (!), and music.  The cupcake was courtesy of The Project Fine Art Zone gallery http://www.theproject-fineartzone.com--one of my favorite galleries last night.

I was so impressed by the caliber of art, so much talent! And the space itself! This gallery is superb; it’s a nonprofit, run by nine local artists with 20% of their proceeds going to an organization that helps girls)!
On our way to another gallery, we saw this:
This is a quilted van! I have a friend that will adore this!  Described as a mobile art installation by Laurie Hill Gibb. Go to her site to read more about her adventures: http://www.lauriehillgibb.com/Site/Turtle_the_Van.html

Our night ended with a stroll back to our car, and a side trip to a small gallery called Casa Magazine, the sound of a violin drew us in.  The art on exhibit here was by Craig Rudholm, and his subject was fish printing, originating in Japan where it’s called gyotaku.  The fish is inked, and then pressed with cloth or paper (yes, the actual fish). Mr. Rudholm then uses collage as the background. To view Craig Rudholm’s site go here: http://wetartco.com/index.html.  They were beautiful! It was lovely and a perfect way to end the night.

We had a really grand time and will definitely do this again.
